SEVERAL athletes from Cannock and Stafford AC competed in the annual Inter County Schools competition, at Stoke University.
With teams from Surrey, Merseyside, Cumbia, West Midlands, Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire, the quality of the runners was some of the best in the country.
However, with the North Staffs League taking place on the same day, athletes were in a quandary over which competition to take part in.
But Iris Davies, although in a medal position in the North Staffs, chose to run in the year 7 race at Stoke, a decision that was truly justified.
She took a brilliant second place behind one of the country’s leading athletes from Surrey. Staffs team and club mate Mollie Shermer suffered from a fast start but still finished an excellent tenth.
In the junior girls, Elisha Walker was another athlete to compete at Stoke despite leading in the North Staffs event.
She was a year down on the majority of her opposition she still put in a fantastic effort to finish in tenth place with Chloe Wilde in 43rd and Rachel Jones 49th.
In the year 7 boys race, Harry Hardy- Smith and Will Harvey both suffered falls at the start.
It was difficult to get back into the race as Hardy-Smith finished 50th and Harvey in 57th.
