IT looks set to be a big month for Stafford Apex swimmer Tom Derbyshire.
He and fellow Royal Wolverhampton School (RWS) student Alice Dearing were selected for the English talent squad and the Great Britain podium squad for open water training and competitions respectively.
Dearing finished top junior in both the 5k and 7k Best Swim Festival European open water events and will now be joined by Derbyshire and two other RWS students, Megan Carline and Toby Robinson at Lake Windermere this month.
There they will compete in the main qualifying event to represent Great Britain at the European Junior Championships in Germany in August, a major stepping stone to the senior ranks.
Not to be outdone, fellow team-mates have set national times galore over the past month.
Swimmers who gained more national times were Carline, Megan Willetts, Holly Sheperd, Lewis Hodgetts and Niamh Hofland
Highlights saw Derbyshire, Robinson and Dearing winning multi events at the Midland ASA regional championships and they also achieved regional records.
The season culminates towards the age group regional championships taking place over two weekends later this month with the Royal school represented by 15 qualifiers plus three relays teams covering a total of 50 swimmers and pushing now for their national times.
