TOUGHER sentences for banned drivers who kill or seriously injure others on the road while disqualified have been welcomed by Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis – but do Stafford’s taxi drivers welcome the measures too?

Harry Jones, 32, left, said: “Yes, there is no deterrent. We need to make examples of people.”

Gurpal Kang, 47, above left, said: “Yes, they should be tougher. It’s simple; why are they disqualified? Because they have done something wrong.”

Auneet Benning, 33, above, middle, said: “Of course. The current law is not a deterrent. Triple what they already get.”
