The Severn Teaching School Alliance is based in Telford, Shropshire. Our Alliance includes over 50 schools, Chester University and a team of school improvement specialists. Together with these strategic partners we can offer you the highest quality of Primary Initial Teacher Training through the School Direct route. For existing teachers the Alliance will provide school to school support and professional development.

Our Alliance operates in a learning community where the quality of provision in schools is high. Due to the exceptional work of the local school leaders, school staff and school improvement team there are no schools in an Ofsted category in Telford and this is a position the Alliance will strive to build on through its contribution to school improvement.

The commitment of the Government to Teaching Schools continues its forward momentum. The total number of teaching schools is set to rise to 500 by 2015. Teaching School Alliances will play an increasingly significant role in staff development and school improvement in the future.

In February 2013, Newport Infant School was designated as a teaching school and this enabled the Severn Teaching School Alliance to be formed. The Teaching School application was made at the request of Primary Headteachers. There remains an absolute view and commitment that the Alliance is run on behalf of local schools and we are determined to meet their needs and aspirations.

The Alliance will contribute to school improvement and raising standards by offering:

• Initial Teacher Training

• Research and Development

• Succession Planning

• Continuous Professional Development

• The Deployment of Specialist Leaders in Education (SLE’s)

• School to School Support

The Severn Teaching School Alliance is offering a Schools Direct PGCE programme which is open to graduates with either a first class or 2:1 degree and is funded by tuition fees paid by the trainee who may receive a bursary from the Teaching Agency. Trainees with a first class degree will receive a bursary of £9000 and for those trainees with a 2:1 degree a £4000 bursary is available. All trainees will receive a free iPad, on loan from their main school, for the duration of the course.

Teaching within our Alliance means that you will have the opportunity to work in one of our 50 high quality primary and 4 special schools, the majority of which are either good or outstanding. As a teacher in our alliance you will have access to an individualised leadership development programme throughout your career, from trainee to senior leader and beyond. You will be working alongside outstanding practitioners. Your training will primarily be school-based, with two school placements organised for you.
