YOU might expect firefighters to work as one big team but when a trophy is at stake, their loyalties become divided.

That is how it seemed at Staffordshire Fire Brigade's drill efficiency competitions in 1967.

Teams from all over the county gathered at the County Showground on Weston Road and struggled to beat the clock and each other and were watched by large crowds as they showed their skill in manning the pumps.

The Staffordshire county team took part in a contest against other Midlands counties and won the Stafford Licensed Victuallers Trophy for the five-man water tender drill.
