TOUCHSTONE edged a narrow win in the Stafford and District Netball League top flight.
They emerged 34-31 winners over Saints, having opened strongly and taken a six goal lead in the first quarter thanks to some accurate shooting.
Saints made good use of their space in the second quarter, with GD Sarah Lakin (player of the match) making some great interceptions, and they continued their fight back in the penultimate quarter, reducing the gap to just two goals.
The final quarter was a tense, neck-and-neck affair, with both teams playing well, particularly Touchstone’s player of the match WA Kay Williams.
There was some excellent shooting on both sides, but Touchstone held their nerve and took the honours.
In a basement clash between Spittal Brook and Freedom, the former ran out 25-14 victors.
Freedom fought all the way but Spittal Brook began to pull ahead, and some great play by Brook’s player of the match, Centre Becky Harvey, saw them leading 15 – 5 at half time.
Despite Freedom’s best efforts, especially player of the match WA Amy Harris, they were never able to make up the deficit.
In division two, Bluebelles B trailed throughout against Emeralds, before snatching the match 31-27. It had been all square going into the last quarter. Meanwhile, Fusion led all the way against Satellites and eventually ran out 32-28 victors.
