A TRACTOR which exploded into flames on farmland near Hopton sent huge plumes of black smoke billowing into the air that could be seen from miles around.
Firefighters were called to the blaze in a stubble field – which had been harvested - at the farm on Lower Lane at 7.25pm last night.
A spokesman for the fire service said the vehicle was ‘well alight’ when they arrived at the location.
She said: “Crews from Stafford, Rising Brook and Stone attended the incident tackling the fire wearing breathing apparatus, using hose reel jets and a compresses foam system, before leaving the scene shortly after 9pm.”
She confirmed the fire had ignited accidentally and that no one had been hurt in the incident.
