THE deputy leader of UKIP will visit Stafford this month - two months after the party closed its town branch.

Paul Nuttall MEP will attend a public meeting at Tillington Hall ahead of next month's European elections.

He will be accompanied by Jill Seymour, the party's lead West Midlands European election candidate who broke the news to members of the Stafford branch in February that it had been closed.

The Stone branch will oversee the party's campaign strategy for the European and general elections.

The European elections take place on May 22 and Mr Nuttall will be at the Tillington Hall Hotel event, in Eccleshall Road, at 7pm on Thursday, April 17. Entry is free.

Trevor Forrester, spokesman for Staffordshire Against HS2, will also speak at the event to spotlight the ongoing fight against HS2.

Mr Nuttall said: "UKIP will continue to oppose HS2 and I am very much looking forward to hearing Mr Forrester speak about why the HS2 vanity project should be scrapped."
