STAFFORDSHIRE Police has created a video showing people how thieves view mobile phones.
The force has launched a campaign aimed at reducing the number of mobile phone thefts and it includes video clips showing how thieves see a mobile as a cash opportunity and how easy it is to steal them.
Chief Inspector Martin Brereton said: “It’s a familiar sight, no one thinks twice at someone using a mobile on the go, but it does make us vulnerable to a thief who can quickly snatch it and run.
“If you saw someone walking around with a wad of cash, would it make you look and wonder why? A thief will see a mobile as a cash opportunity. Some top phones can cost up to £500.
“We urge everyone to be cautious, be aware of the potential risk and keep themselves and their property safe.”
People can register their phone and mobile data devices for free on www.immobilise.com for the best chance of getting it back if lost or stolen. You just need your IMEI number which can be found by dialling *#06# and serial numbers for your other devices. If police recover lost or stolen property they check the database and can return the item to the rightful owner.
