MYSTERY surrounds the future of a village swimming pool which is claimed will close at Christmas.

Reports that Gnosall’s pool, in the grounds of St Lawrence School, was closing in December began circulating on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter on Friday.

A notice was also put up at the pool over the weekend, urging villagers to email county councillor Mark Winnington and council officer Sarah Garner.

But Councillor Winnington told the Newsletter today that he had not heard of any formal decision being made by the school or the council on the pool’s future.

“I have had no consultation from anybody that the pool is closing,” he said. “The first I knew was the notices, and when somebody sent me an email.”

The Newsletter contacted St Lawrence School and the county council and is currently awaiting responses.

A campaign to keep the pool open was launched after plans to replace the current school with a new multi million-pound building did not include rebuilding the pool.
