WITH elections just one year away it’s useful to review issues which should be on the agenda for all candidates. Locally this could include the costly closure of the Wedgwood Memorial College (WMC), Barlaston where, over the two years since the doors were closed, at least £300,000 of tax-payers’ money has been spent simply to keep buildings empty - and with no movement on the sale.
This is primarily the responsibility of Stoke City Council but Staffs County Council is joint owner of the estate.
The potential exists for a re-opening of the college, supported by educational charities who can run it on a self-financing basis.
We will welcome an open and transparent response from all election candidates - are you in favour of the county council working with the SoT City Council to initiate a positive process of discussion and negotiation?
