A BURTON rock trio chalk up a landmark this weekend when they take to the stage as a charity gig returns to the town.
The fifth annual Oxfam Rocks-xjam will be held at the Wyggeston Hotel, in Calais Road, Horninglow, tomorrow (Saturday, October 20) from 8pm until late.
The gig, which will raise money for Oxfam and veterinary charity the PDSA, will be headlined by Burton power trio Junction, who will be playing their 1,000th gig.
Meanwhile, the band’s heavier, metal-based spin-off, Faithealer, featuring the band plus two extra members, will also be making an appearance.
The event comes to the ‘Wyggy’ having in previous years appeared at Burton pubs the Star and Garter, Old Royal Oak, Roebuck and Navigation Inn.
Organiser Barry Martin told the Mail: “It’s been all around the town but this year I decided to put it on at my local.
“It’s a great night if you like classic rock and heavy rock played really well — you won’t get a better night anywhere.”
Martin is a long-time fan of Junction, a band fronted by Ben Heenan who have been playing together since they were 14 and are now in their early 20s.
He said: “They just tick all the boxes and these guys have really done their apprenticeship and have excellent musicianship — they always go down well.
“Ben is fighting off the ladies with a stick. He’s got the blond hair, the muscles, the tattoos, the cheeky grin — he’s got the lot.”
Junction perform hits from the likes of Thin Lizzy, Cream, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, while their harderedged incarnation evoke the sounds of band such as AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath.
