A WOMAN had to be cut free from her car after colliding with a wall and railings on St Leonards Avenue in Stafford yesterday.
The crash occurred just before 2pm at the junction of St Leonard’s Avenue and the A34 Lichfield Road.
Firefighters from Rising Brook and Stafford used hydraulic equipment to cut the woman free before taking her by ambulance to hospital.
A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance service confirmed they had taken a woman in her 50s to Stafford Hospital suffering chest pains caused by the seatbelt and the airbag in the crash.
She said a member of the public trained in first aid had been on the scene when the ambulance service arrived holding the woman's head and neck in order to immobilise her and prevent any exacerbation of injuries caused by the crash.
