ON THIS day in 1976 EMI re-issued all 22 Beatles singles. It was also the day Yesterday was released for the first time in the UK.

Ten years earlier on this day The Rolling Stones began recording Paint it Black.

In 1951 today marked the death of singer and composer Ivor Novello. The annual British songwriter award is named after him.
