A youngster from a village near Eccleshall has been chosen to receive a top bravery award after saving his granddad’s life when he fell down a well.

Five-year-old Jacobi Caudwell, from Broughton, has been selected from children all over the UK to be presented with an Outstanding Bravery Award at the Woman’s Own Children of Courage Awards at Westminster Abbey next Wednesday.

The youngster was chosen for the honour after courageously trekking over a mile on his own across windswept heathland to get help after his granddad John fell into a disused well and broke his leg and ankle during a holiday in Anglesey.

After his first attempt to find assistance failed, Jacobi returned to his granddad but then bravely set off again - and this time made it to John’s nearest neighbours, who alerted emergency crews.
