A CANAL BOAT with a woolly difference has moored at Stone this weekend to offer a shopping treat to knitters and crocheters.

The Wool Boat, which cruises the inland waterways of England and Wales, opened for business on the Trent and Mersey Canal in Stone town centre today. It will also be open tomorrow from 10am to 4pm, before calling at Barlaston next Saturday and Sunday (September 6-7) and Etruria the weekend after (September 13-14).

Lancashire couple Colin and Carole Wareing sell a range of wools, patterns, knitting needles and finished hand-knitted garments, from fingerless gloves to boatsman’s ganseys (jumpers), from their narrowboat, Emma Maye.

Stone was previously home to a land-based crafting shop, Yarn Gathering, but the store closed last year.
