Two fire crews were called out this afternoon to an overheating engine on a houseboat moored on the Trent and Mersey canal of the A51 at Pasturefields, near Hixon.

Fire engines from Stone and Rugeley attended the scene after the boat owner spotted smoke coming from the engine at 13.42pm.

Firefighters isolated the electricity supply to the engine, then cooled it down using a hosereel jet.

There was no damage to the boat, and the crews carried out a fire safety check for the owner, then left the scene at just after 3pm.
