The alarm was raised at metal recycling firm JBMI Ltd at 9.41am this morning, June 23, after fire broke out in a warehouse building containing 10 tones of industrial metal waste.

Four fire crews from Brewood, Abbots Bromley, Chase Terrace and Tutbury, plus a water carrier from Cannock fire station were still at the scene this afternoon.

A fire service spokeswoman said crews were using foam to create a blanket to smother the flames. The fire was confined to the warehouse, but an adjoining office block had been evacuated as a precaution.

Environment Agency officials have also been at the site to check that nearby water courses are not being affected by pollution.
