No emergencies in Stafford, Stone and Rugeley during the first in a series of strikes by the FBU over the next eight days

FIREFIGHTERS were out on the picket lines in Stafford, Stone and surrounding areas today as they staged the first in a series of walk-outs.

The Fire Brigades Union is leading the latest round of industrial action in a battle over pension changes.

There will be a series of two-hour strikes between now and Monday, with the first one early this morning, during which there were no incidents.

The next one will be between 5pm and 7pm today and residents are being warned to take extra care.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has contingency plans in place but are urging people to ensure safety so they can to avoid having to call firefighters out unless necessary.

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has been in negotiations with the government for three years over the pension changes and has already held a number of strikes over the last few weeks.
