Louis Parkes, Joey Girling & Ben Heaney from Stafford, all of whom are sporting the ‘taches’, have offered their hair styling and cutting expertise to the people of Stafford for a donation to the charity during the month of November, and have so far raised an impressive £250.
"It's been fun and hugely enjoyable," Says Joe Parkes of Stafford, who launched Essalon in the town 15 years ago with business partner David Heaney, "but more importantly it has been a real talking point, which is the whole purpose of the charity who in the past have struggled to gain awareness of this illness, which has been such a taboo subject amongst men. 'Movember' has made it acceptable to talk about, which will subsequently save lives.”
The Essalon 'Movember' moustaches were showcased this week at the salons beauty/charity event, where guests could donate to the charity as well as enjoy a variety of hair styling techniques and beauty treatments, which included a taste of the salons holistic and well being treatments by Aveda.
And whilst Bic razor sales may go through the roof in December, there is one man who seems happy to embrace the distinguished look a little longer - "Ive grown quite fond of this moustache, and I might just keep it" Laughs Louis.
The 'Movember' charity box will remain in the salon until December 12th. To donate, please visit Essalon at 8 Eastgate Street in Stafford.
Mid Staffs NHS Foundation Trust also got involved in Movember with around 20 members of staffs growing a tash. Here are six of them who were willing to pose for a pic, well done lads!
Members of staff from the Dog and Doublet, Sandon, raised over £500 for men’s health charities during Movember. Joshua Hunt, 21, Richard Martin, 22, Nathan Ward, 34, Matt Craen, 21 and Ben Hodgkiss, 22, took part in the Movember challenge and agreed to grow moustaches throughout the month of November.
Operations manager Marianne Conheeney explained why the boys had chosen to take part in this charity. “We want to do something to raise money for charity every month – we had just taken part in a Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning a few weeks before. The Movember challenge was obviously very topical so the boys decided it would be a good one to get involved with.
“We had special T-shirts printed for them to wear while they were at work and they really grabbed the attention of the customers who were very keen to donate. Other staff members also made contributions and donations were received through the Movember website. The final figure raised was £510."
