STAFFORD’S Alstom firm could be taken over by US firm General Electric as bosses consider a £10 billion offer for the energy business.

But the deal is not yet done for the French-owned firm as German company Siemens is also interested in the power turbines business and both bidders have met French President Francois Hollande to discuss potential offers.

Alstom employs 1,700 people in Stafford in the grid and thermal power businesses at St Leonards and Lichfield Road.

A committee is due to consider the offer and an announcement is likely to be made in June.
