STAFFORD Town are 90 minutes away from an appearance in this season’s Les James Challenge Cup final.

In a competition won last term by fellow Stafford rivals Brocton, the Reds won their quarter final tie at home to Blackwood 2-0.

After their enforced winter break of over 50 days without a game the Reds returned to action, but it was the visitors who created several early chances as Stafford struggled to get going.

When defender Joe Woodward was shown a red card for a two footed tackle Town’s chances of victory looked bleak.

However, a change of tactics in the second half saw a much better performance from Town and on the hour mark, Morgan Hurley rounded the keeper to open the scoring.

Seven minutes from time Hurley ran through the visitors defence to score the clinching goal. A visiting defender was red carded for comments made to an assistant referee after the goal.

In the semi final, Town will host either Bromsgrove Sporting or Alvis Sporting Club on Saturday March 22.
