STAFFORD folk will be able to dump their rubbish at the tip seven days a week soon - and recycle more items.
The county council is bringing in new opening times at four centres across the county, with Stafford being one of them.
The site in St Alban’s Road will also be able to recycle carpets, mattresses and hard plastics.
A date for the start of the new daily operation has yet to be decided but in the meantime interim opening times, due to start on October 28, will be extended by 30 minutes to close at 5pm.
There will also be new re-use opportunities so people can pick up goods no longer wanted by others.
The council has recently taken on a new contractor FCC Environment to operate the sites and provide more services at a saving of £240,000 a year.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet committee agreed to the contract in June. And most of the county’s sites will be revamped with new equipment where needed.
Councillor Gill Heath, the council’s cabinet support member for environment and rural affairs, said: “People will see the improved facilities being gradually phased in at sites across the county.
"They will include longer opening hours, new services for small businesses and more people on hand to help at each centre; meaning a better all-round experience for centre visitors.”
Other sites to operate seven days a week in future will be Leek, Cannock and Bilbrook.
