CHIEF fire officer Peter Dartford, from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, has been awarded the Queen's Fire Service Medal.
He became a firefighter in 1982 at the age of 18 and joined Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in 1999 as a senior divisional officer.
He was promoted to assistant chief fire officer and deputy chief fire officer before being appointed chief fire officer and chief executive of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2008.
And this year Mr Dartford was awarded an honorary doctorate from Staffordshire University.
He is currently vice president of the Chief Fire Officers Association and will take on the role of president later this year.
