A STAFFORD shopper looking forward to the town's new Marks and Spencer branch had a shock in store when head office staff told her there were no plans on the cards.
Rose Mann, of Long Meadows, was surprised to receive two letters from the retail giant's executive office saying "there are no imminent plans for a new store in your area" and "we have no plans to increase the size of the store". Marks and Spencer is one of the two stores confirmed for the new Riverside shopping complex, former Bridge Street Tesco site. The other big name announced so far is Debenhams and the development is set to open in 2016.
But following a call from the Newsletter an M&S spokeswoman said: "This was a mistake on our end – we remain involved with the new Riverside development. We have written to the customer to apologise for any confusion."
Ms Mann said: "I'm relieved. I'm looking forward to a new, bigger M&S store."
