STAFFORD HC firsts earned a valuable point against visiting league leaders Bromsgrove in a 1-1 West Midlands One draw on Saturday.
However it was the home side who were feeling robbed on the final whistle as the visitors equalised in the last ten seconds.
Bromsgrove arrived with a completely different team who defeated Stafford 7-1 in the first encounter.
Stafford started well and put Bromsgrove under considerable pressure. Randall Moore linked well with Andy Peatfield, the former putting his first two chances past the far post.
League top scorer Moore soon found his range and forced a couple of excellent saves from the Bromsgrove keeper.
Stafford kept plugging away and man of the match Ben Cantrill found Moore with a great pass out wide. Moore played in James Gillingham who deflected the ball neatly home.
The home side kept up the pressure but could not extend their lead.
After the break Stafford found themselves playing into the wind and Bromsgrove eventually found their way into the game, forcing home keeper Rich Dean to pull off a couple of fine saves.
Up the other end, Stafford kept creating chances but were unable to find the back of the net.
Wiith just seconds remaining Bromsgrove picked up the ball after a Giles Rowden error and broke through three tackles to bobble the ball home.
A great performance if not the right result. This Saturday, fifth place Stafford are away to second bottom Bloxwich.
In the Staffordshire Ladies League, second division Phoenix Blues extended their unbeaten league run to six games with an excellent fourth draw in five.
They shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with leaders Aldridge and Walsall seconds, thanks to a late strike from Jennifer Woodyard.
The Blues are fourth in the table, but 11 points down on third place Wolves and Tettenhall seconds. This Saturday the Blues visit local rivals Stafford thirds.
