DOCTORS in Stafford and the surrounding areas will be asked to vote yes or no to plans to dissolve Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust and strip services from the county town.

A letter - written by Jeremy Lefroy MP and on behalf of MPs Bill Cash, Aidan Burley and Gavin Williamson - states one of the Department of Health's key tests for service reconfiguration is that plans have the support of commissioners. It calls on GPs, as members of the Clinical Commissioning Groups responsible for the area, to clearly state whether they support the proposals with a simple yes or no response.

In order to ensure the ballot's confidentiality, Stafford Borough Council has agreed to receive the responses, for which a paid response envelope has been provided.

The borough council will count the responses received after 4pm on Friday February 14.

The ballot paper also offers GPs in the area a chance to submit any further comments they wish to make and confirms these will also be reported anonymously.
