PENKRIDGE residents and blushing brides are gearing up to celebrate their village gems this summer.
Let's Celebrate Penkridge, taking place on May 10 will bring together a host of groups and societies who meet at the Haling Dene Centre, so they can find out more about one another's activities and other villagers can see what is on offer.
So far 19 organisations have expressed their interest in taking part, Penkridge parish councillor Sandie Morris said.
And the next day, May 11, the centre is set to host its first wedding fair.
The wedding event was called into question when the original organiser pulled out. But at last week's Penkridge Parish Council meeting Councillor Morris said she had been speaking to alternative organisers. Fellow councillors gave the go-ahead for the fair to take place.
Councillor John McPheat said: "I think we should give it a go. We have put a lot of work in."
