MARQUETRY SUCCESS Eccleshall-based Staffordshire Marquetry Group is celebrating success at the Marquetry Society’s Annual Exhibition. Awards won by members John Jeggo, Brian Freeman and Quentin Smith ensured the group retained the Inter-Group Challenge Shield, which it has now won four times in the past seven years.

The group’s work will be on display at its Open Evening on Wednesday, June 18, during Eccleshall Festival Week.

DOG FOULINGNeighbourhood Watch and the borough council joined forces on May 24 outside the library with a stall aimed at dog owners who do not collect up dog droppings and leave the mess for others. The council's health officer Dave Allen and NHW's John Baldry were giving out leaflets and advice for the morning.

CAR WASH DAY Members of the Methodist Church were fund raising on May 24 with a car wash and coffee morning at the church room. The funds raised will help to pay for decorating the outside of the church building.

RICHBOROUGH ESTATES The latest master plan from Richborough Estates for the land at the rear of Badgers Croft can be found on the parish council website at www.eccleshallparish


ACOUSTIC NIGHT Music lovers attending the acoustic night at the Royal Oak tonight are in for a rare treat as new five-piece acoustic band The Eccoustics will be headlining. Doors open at 8pm, admission is free and there is a raffle in aid of Air Ambulance.

BASKETS UP This Sunday the Ecclian Society and friends will be installing the floral hanging baskets and Union flags in time for the festival and the summer period. It is a mammoth task which they undertake each year and they would be grateful of a few extra pair of hands to help with the work. The result of their efforts is always staggering when they are in full bloom.

ROTARY CLUB On Monday, June 9 the club meets at the Royal Oak for a fellowship evening starting at 7.30pm. The members are arranging a walking treasure (duck) hunt in the town centre for the Monday of festival week involving local businesses. See their website for full details www.eccleshallrotary.com.

SUGNALL FARMERS MARKETOn Sunday, June 8 the farmers market takes place at Sugnall Home farm 10am-2pm. It takes place on the second Sunday of each month.

HISTORICAL SOCIETYThe society had a summer outing for its June meeting with a trip to Port Sunlight. The July outing is to Althorp House.

INN SIGNSEccleshall WI will be learning about inn signs at their meeting on Thursday June 12 at 7.30pm in the parish room.
